Art therapy uses mediums such as drawing, painting, clay, images , sculpture and the overall creative art process as a reflection of an individual’s emotional, interlectual, physical and sometimes spiritual wellbeing.
Art therapy is based on the
belief that the creative process involved in the making of art is
healing and life-enhancing. Through creating art and talking about its symbology and process people can increase awareness of self, cope with
symptoms, stress, and transform traumatic experiences, enhance cognitive
abilities and enjoy the life-affirming pleasures of artistic
creativity.
Importantly a client does not need any artistic skill or previous experience to benifit from art therapy.
"Creativity washes away from the soul, the dust of everyday life. "
